Surfers are greedy… As a rule, we all want to score the best waves for ourselves and to stay ahead of the rest of the pack – especially as our sport and lifestyle become more popular with hordes of new people learning how to surf each year. As such, those surfers who learn to understand the swells and conditions that are best for their favorite surf spots always get the best surf.
This Surfline Costa Rica guide is intended to be a tool to help you to score the best surf. Not only will you know the location of the more popular surf spots, but if you know the swell forecast you’ll also be able to use the Swell Map section in this book to figure out where the swell will be hitting the best.
Even though Costa Rica surfing has become even more crowded over the years like everywhere else, there are still frontier areas where you can explore and find new waves. If you’re up for it we encourage you to explore, and in respect for all of those exploring surfers before you, we will avoid pointing out the exact locations of some of the more sensitive frontier surf spots so you may continue on that tradition of surf exploration.
To greatly insure that you will have a successful surfing experience, you will obviously need to know what the swell forecast will be during your stay. On Surfline.com we have a host of forecast tools and information, and when used with the Swell Map section in this book, you can be sure to be in the right place at the right time.
Remember, as we travel and surf new surf spots, we all have a responsibility to each other to share this fantastic resource and to treat everyone as we would like to be treated ourselves. The Surfline Bill of Rights and Lefts offers some simple rules to travel and surf by, which will help you to score more waves and friends in the water.
See ya out there. Sean Collins
